keeping a camera against vinyl or rubber = bad?

I'm modestly starting out as a beginner since my last SLR was a 35mm film one and I took Photography 101 when you developed darkroom photos in class ('89-'93).

I've started out with an affordable used DSLR, a 12MP Sony α500.

The manual says I should not rest it against vinyl or rubber for any length of time.

Is this because it might energize the camera with static, or do you think they're just afraid of incompatible materials making it melt or become sticky...?

Thanks

Jeff
