The Most Practical Implication of Wide Dynamic Range is ...
1

I just know I'm going to get crushed on this question.

CONTEXT: a well-funded friend is looking to upgrade his 7 yr old Canon and wanted to talk about possible options. He's a light user, and uses it for family and High School games with his kids, etc. It was a long talk on a favorite topic, and we went over a lot of territory. However, when it came to DR I realized that it's difficult to identify the most practical benefit of it for someone that doesn't do a lot of complicated imaging. I'm not tying it to ISO invariance (which might or might not be something to consider with high DR).

QUESTION: For (1) a properly exposed image with (2) a wide exposure range, would it be fair to say that the most practical, obvious, benefit of a wide DR is better shadow detail ?

Thanks
