I'm keeping the M100, selling my M50 with some accessories, and buying a 90D.
This has nothing to do with the future of either crop system. It's what I need right now.
What dictates my choices is the direction of my photography. That's the real question you need to answer. Think 3-5 years into the future and ask yourself what will I be doing. If you're just walking around taking pictures then any system will work.
BTW I still have FD lenses and a film camera.
In ten years will be only a couple of aps-c cameras and maybe also a couple m43. The rest will be only a few expensive full frame and a couple super expensive medium format. Everybody will use their smartphones with some kind of external lenses. The hobbyists will be limited on buy cheap only to "play" with composition but with quality results similar to their smartphones, or going super expensive for those who can still afford it.
Enjoy when you can one more hobby that will change forever.
We're simply returning to a time very similar to the old film days. There were always cheap disposable options, cheap cameras that could still use anything from cheap film to amazing film, and then the very small segment of the market of the high end enthusiast and professional bodies.
The hobby isn't changing forever. It's returning to equilibrium. The big change was the huge increase in demand as people adopted a new technology in the form of digital cameras. It was always doomed to crash even without the advent of smartphones. Consumer electronics always follow this pattern, and cameras are no different. The only thing that will really change is the release schedule of new generations and the ever decreasing cost of excellent cameras and lenses while there will of course always be higher end enthusiast and pro bodies.
Like always. Smartphones have primarily affected the very low end, point and shoot market. The rest was affected mostly by maturing technology and expected reduced demand.
