Shoot through vs Bounce soft box for speed light

I'm looking to get some more use out of my speed lights with softening modifiers and unsure which type is best.

I'm looking at some (budget) 45" octagon softboxes.

One has an S-type mount so the flash faces directly at the subject, and has both in inner and an out layer of diffuser screen.

The other has the flash mounted backwards to bounce off the umbrella and a single layer.

The S-type version is almost twice the price, but seems more 'pro' to me, though I have no grounds for this assumption.

So which type is recommended for a more flattering soft light? I'd be using them for various application, but generally human subjects in one way or another.
