Given your severe load bearing constraints, I don't understand why you're looking beyond the RX10IV. It has excellent AF and IQ. Any full-frame solution is likely to be too heavy for the usage that your proposed.

Hey Dave. Thanks for the reply. You are right about the RX10IV. The issues with that camera are wirh higher ISO, sometimes busy/harsh OOF backgrounds and wanting to increase crop potential.

I currently use an XT3/100-400 combo so know weight-wise, an A7RIV or A9 /100-400 combo should be ok..and when not, just use the RX10IV. Just looking to increase % keepers (the RX10IV being better than the Fuji!) and have more flexibility re crop of images captured using a FF sensor.

I think that you're caught in a "Catch-22". A lens for a full-frame sensor is going to be necessarily large and heavy. I have a little 5', 100-lb friend that hand holds a Canon R5 with an EF 100-400mm lens, BUT she has no pinched nerves.

An E 70-350mm G on a crop sensor body, like a 6600, will give you the pixel density roughly matching an a7RIII in crop mode. That's got the field of vision equal to a 525mm lens on a full-frame body and it'll be way, way lighter than a full-frame rig. It'll give you more cropping potential than the 1" sensor in the RX-10, with very good AF.

Yes, you'll give up some to an ultimate rig, like an a1 with a 600mm GM, but many people, perhaps including you, would injure themselves if they tried to lug that around. Being safe and in the hobby for years to come is more important than having the ultimate rig.

Check out these bird shots on Flickr, using the E 70-350mm on various bodies:

Lots of good stuff there.
