Ferruginous Hawks
22

Ferruginous Hawks are the largest hawks in North America, with their territories in the western USA, parts of Mexico and Canada. The Audubon Society says that there may be as few as 4000 pairs remaining of these hawks.

Here in the Central Valley of California these hawks (if you can find them) migrate from some of the colder regions across the West and into warmer areas in the state during the winter months.

I photographed these hawks about 2 months ago in Salt Springs Valley. I went back about 2 weeks ago and obtained some better images of them in flight. But only got a window of about 10 minutes before they flew out of sight.

Comments welcome,

Dave
