re: Canon EOS R5 + RF800 or EF100-400 II + EF2X III

I have been going back and forth with different lens setups on the R5:

RF800/RF800+RF 1.4X or EF100-400 II + EF2X III

I was discouraged with the RF800 for a time. I couldn't seem to get the technique together to deal with camera shake associated with the long focal lengths.

I have finally settled on an opinion, probably the same opinion many of you already formed.

The RF800 is great for getting out where distances are greater for the rather long minimum-focus-distance (MFD). If a long reach is needed, it's really good. It's also light and fairly maneuverable. I am setting up a monopod kit for it using the Wimberley MH-100 mount to help me with camera shake.

The EF100-400 II + 2X III is great for anything else along with being more usable with the variable focal length and the MUCH closer MFD. It is heavier but manageable.

Both setups are sharp enough for me.

EF100-400 II + EF2X III

EF100-400 II + EF2X III

RF800 + RF1.4X + 16mm Extension Tube

RF800 + RF1.4X + 16mm Extension Tube
