I don't really believe this statement of mine. Its way too pessimistic. The fact is that cameras are so good and last so long that the only real worry is how soon one will be dazzled by something new and have to spend yet more money.

The recent release of the M6II, 90D. and M50II indicate Canon is not quitting APS-C. The OP's M100 uses the still excellent 24 MP DPAF M50II sensor. All Canon APS-C cameras are dependent on the EF lens lineup which is 2nd to none. The M mount lenses are optimized for compactness and low cost. Should this selection not satisfy, the EF-S and EF lenses should do anything one wants. (Canon offers 5 different tilt-shift lenses. ;-))  Then there are the Sigma, Rokinon, and other 3rd party choices.  I love that I can mount my FF lenses on my M6II for different performance, perspective, and backup.

I see no reason to worry about the future of the M system.  Both my two first 2003 vintage digital cameras still work.  I forget the cost but the images are priceless.
