How is it that Sony is able to rate the shutters on some of their cameras at 500,000 when Canikon's highest tier cameras don't reach that number despite being in the camera business for decades. Their mid and entry level cameras rate even lower. Is Sony measuring it differently or is their tech that far ahead?

Sony shutters last longer because the impact at end-of-travel is cushioned by all the dust that accumulates in the sensor area.
