Why do UPS Makers say to not use an Extension Cord?
1

At least some say that using an extension cord to connect the UPS to a wall socket will void the warranty.

1) Why?

2) Is it really unsafe to do so, even is you use a quality heavy-duty 3-prong cord?

3) What do you do if the cord on the UPS just won't reach the nearest wall socket? Pay an electrician to install a new socket, if that's even possible given the house wiring?

4) How would the maker know if you used an extension cord? Would the unit sense that and refuse to operate? I assume not, such then there would be no point in warning against such use, as the unit would automatically prohibit it.

Cords on UPS's generally are not replaceable - you have to use the one that is attached.

Thanks for any info and suggestions.
