there is a really intuitive IOS app  called CameraPixels , with two versions Lite and Pro.

**all ** the main photographic controls found on a  DSLR are right there on main app screen (not buried in menus or sub screens, etc) and allow real time or viewing  differences when changes are made in the settings you choose.  swipe shutter speed and you see difference in picture darkness/brightness,  change ISO = same, change White Balance = warmer or cooler.

The big deal for me is how quick and easy  to change  basic exposure but Pro version has focus or exposure bracketing or both combined, various video modes, image quality choices, and on a and on with ability to save individual custom setting for future use.

In pro version there are some really nice extra features that could be useful for students of any age and well worth the 6$ for pro version. Brief user guide included in app Tools dropdown also.
