What's the sharpest highest resolving Nikon 35mm focal length lens, if you're only shooting f4 / 5.6

Hi All

OK, so I have an F6. I hired a Canon 35mm 1.4 mk2 last summer and used it on a Canon body. Got the sharpest most vibrant results I have ever seen. I only have a Nikon 35 F2D for the F6. I'm on the fence whether to jump back to Canon, unless there is a Nikon 35mm lens that will rival the Canon. I'm not into shooting wide open at 1.4, so it has to be stellar at mid aperatures.

I don't really want to entertain a non Nikon lens really and it has to be autofocus. I guess a lot of people will say the Nikon 35 1.8g - but will that really be as sharp as the Canon given the huge price differential? I have heard so many mixed views - 1.4g vs 1.8g.

What's the lowdown?

Thanks a lot

Julian
