the digital TC is terrific, and the new firmware makes it possible to access it more quickly and without having to worry about trading reach for image data and flexibility.

is it as good as you'd get with the optical TC or a dedicated 50mm/70mm/100mm lens on an ILC body? no, but that shouldn't be a surprise to anyone. is it as good as results you'll get if you crop and upsize in PS? every source I've seen that has compared results side by side says yes, and to my eye they're very impressive in most circumstances (they fall apart a bit in low light, but that's also not very surprising.)

the only reason I can see to NOT use it now is if you need to up your FPS in drive mode; the function currently only works in single shot. if that's a limitation you can live with, you can punch in freely any time you like with a quick twist of the function ring, and if for some reason you absolutely hate the results, you don't have to live with them... you've got the RAW, so just turn it off after the fact and export a 23mm FOV jpeg or mess with it to your heart's content in your RAW editor of choice.
