Did you consider the 50mm f/2 Apo-Lanthar?

With particular relevance to infinity and astro performance:

And with regard to your whole kit, add also a cheap 35mm or 28mm for compact walk-around, and you'd have a well-spaced, well-diversified kit: 18, 28/35, 50, 85.

It's funny how one can spend weeks going through all lists and online reviews and still missing out on something rather essential. No idea why I did not find the 50mm f/2 Apo-Lanthar before, really thought I had all 40-65mm e-mount lenses covered.

This one looks quite promising and might solve my dilemma about the 65mm f/2 Apo being too heavy, specialized and close to the 85mm. It's like half the weight and seems to offer almost identical performance. I'd be willing to compromise on loosing macro abilities for the pros it has. Just briefly checked some reviews - the Fred Miranda thread itself is 73 pages, will spend some more time tomorrow and go through it.

Really appreciate you pointing me to this!
