Not sure if the AF of the M6mkII is as good in subject tracking mode for action compared to doing things in "your" "old fashioned way."

Right. I've found the standard Spot AF to be uncannily good. Close to 100% keeper rates at times. The "Tracking" AF (including Eye Detect) needs a bit more to chew on, and works best when you can fill the frame as much as possible.

This is the case on even the R5, though the R5 is certainly more adept.
