Next Z lens launch

I expect at least one long(er) tele-zoom to be announced during CP+. The Z line has been around two years and a few months and still no native tele-zoom longer than 200mm. With Sony and Canon both firmly in that territory it's a big hole for Nikon, esp. those looking to start mirrorless from scratch.
I agree. My guess will be an S-Line 100-400mm.
That might very well be my next lens purchase... Unless I cave in and get the 24-70mm f2.8 first ;)

I have the Voigtlander 28mm which is very nice, but sold the 40mm f/2 and am definitely interested in the Z.

Keen on the micro. I liked the F-mount version in lots of ways but this new one should be very good.

Wonder whether they might launch the 85mm 1.2 or the 100-400 with the Z8?

I think the next lenses will be the 100-400 and/or the 200-600 as there are very few long lenses for the Z mount. Possibly the 24-105 and the 85 f1.2 also to be soon.

Bring on the pancakes!

Whatever it is - body or lens, I hope Nikon is working on production output so the public can get their hands on the new hardware without having to wait months on end. It's ridiculous,,,, no matter what the reason.

I’m waiting on the 105mm micro. Already have the 50 f1.2, which for me is more versatile than the 85 f1.2 for lowlight indoors.

If the 105 is f2 then I’ll be sold.

I hope you're right. I would really like to replace my AF-S 80-400G with the 100-400 S. I'm also hoping that the 100-400 S will be really sharp at 400 and will accommodate the a TC.

All just speculation on my part, but I also hope that I am right as I too would like this range to fill the gap from my 24-70 to the 500 pf. As good as the 70-200 f2.8S is with the 2x tc, a dedicated lens is always a better option.
I'm also hoping that the 100-400 S will be really sharp at 400 and will accommodate the a TC.
M sure they'll accept the TCs and I'd also say that it should be reasonably sharp.

It's been 5 months since the last Z lens launch: https://www.dpreview.com/products/nikon/lenses?subcategoryId=lenses&page=1

It looks to me that 5 months is about the longest interval to date, so perhaps we can expect a lens or two in the next month?

There are 11 lenses to go over the next 22 months, plus presumably one or two not on the roadmap, so likely we should expect a couple of lenses launched every 4 months or so?

To their credit, Nikon delivered pretty much exactly on the original roadmap: with one delay (70-200), one swap (24 and 20), and one or two extras relative to the 3 blank lines in 2020

Actually, I'll revise my statement from earlier...

I'm thinking that the 100-400 as others have mentioned should be out this year (perhaps in the second half of 2021). I mean NIkon did release two teleconverters but so far (AFAIK the 70-200 is the only lens that's compatible with it, and more than likely they released them prior to the 100-400's because they know people will want to use at least a 1.4x along with a 100-400.

I'm more curious as to how much the 100-400 will end up costing as I'm looking for one. (Then again, if it's like other Z lenses, perhaps in the $1500 range but I guess we'll find out at some point.)

And 11 lenses over a 22 month period may seem like a lot, but even if Nikon released 3 lenses semi-annually, that would get you your 11 lenses in roughly 2 years. And it seems that Nikon will probably announce the 100-400 and 200-600 at the same time probably as they are both geared towards sports/wildlife shooters in general, but each is different types I would think, so those two might likely be announced to gether, and perhaps one of their macro lenses (as macro would be the one last missing type of lens that they would need to sort of round-out the Z line for now).

Perhaps I am just overly cynical today, but if I had to wager on what Nikon will introduce next, I'd put money on lenses that few are clamoring for, such as the 50mm Micro, DX 18-200, and perhaps some other wildcard along the lines of the 24-50 kit zoom. Everyone wants the 24-105, compact primes, 105 Micro, tele zooms, and more 1.2 primes, but they are always just over the horizon.

I'd love to be surprised by a flurry of glass announcements, especially the compact primes pair (at a super reasonable price!) but I'm not holding my breath...

The 28 and 40mm compacts are next. I will own both of them.
Yes please! I want them both! If they're both at least F2.8, and affordable, I'll grab 'em both.
Me as well. I wouldn't mind something like Fuji's XF F2 duo in comparative terms. Small, lightweight, decently fast and good imagery.
From the silhouettes on the roadmap, it looks like they'll be about the size of the 24-50 when it's collapsed, which is small enough for me. And someone (maybe Thom Hogan) recently speculated that one was going to be 2.8 and the other 2.0. I'd love to see them priced at $299, but I won't be surprised if they start at $349 or even $399 full retail.
Another remaining question is metal vs plastic mounts. I’ll buy them either way, but I’m hoping for metal.

My bet would be the 100-400mm S would be in the $2,000 range. The 200-600 is not an 'S", so they will drop that in at the $1,200-1,500 range.

I think, with the 1.4x (or 2.0x) Teleconvertors, the 100-400 will be an amazing setup. From the silhouette, it doesn't appear to be an f/2.8 or even a 4.0. Just guessing it may be f/5.6. With the quality we have seen from the Teleconverter, it will stand up very well to the Canons, yet pricier.

It's fun speculating, but time will tell...

I'm wondering if the 100-400 will be an f/4 to compete with Canon's latest f/4 lens (fro EF mount).... If so, then around $2000 might be about right.

I still think that a 200-600 zoom (even a slow zoom) will be closer to $2k though. I mean the 200-500 f-mount is still $1400 (and may have been higher at launch, I haven't checked), and since some Z lenses seem to be pricer than their F-mount equivalents at launch, I'm thinking the 200-600 probably won't be an exception either.

If the silhouette on Nikon's roadmap is accurate, there is no way the promised 100-400mm can be an f/4 lens. The front element diameter would need to be much larger.

Agreed.

The front element for the 180-400 f4 is approximately 106 mm in a 128mm diameter lens. The 80-400 f5.6 at 400mm accepts a 77mm filter.

Last year Nikon registered a patent for four Phase-Fresnel telephoto primes: 400 f/4.7, 400 f/4.2, 300 f/4 and 500 f/5.7

These were mentioned on NR a few months back, and they are possibly for Z-mount see http://disq.us/p/2cj9ce7
