I was thinking just last night that instead of providing 35mm-equivalent focal length, the manufacturers should simply provide actual focal length of the lens and its angle of view on the intended sensor(s). Get people thinking in terms of the view angle as the most fundamental aspect of the shot regardless of sensor size.

It turns out that this is happening in cell phone camera specifications. For example, the Google Pixel 5, Samsung Galaxy S21, and iPhone 12 give camera specifications including field of view in degrees. Example: scroll down to "Rear Camera" at https://www.samsung.com/global/galaxy/galaxy-s21-ultra-5g/specs/

I predict that using "35mm equivalent" spec for focal length will become increasingly antiquated and irrelevant except to those of us who grew up shooting 35mm film.
