If you right click on the C1 program icon in the Start Menu you should see a list of the last few catalogues. Do you see this?

Yes. I had not noticed that before. Unfortunately, clicking on a recent catalog still pops up the no-catalog error message.

The Settings131 file you get when using sessions, which are not available in the Express version, so again points to a possible problem installation.

OK, I will try reinstall. I am on MacOS 10.16, not Windows; not sure whether their Mac version is more bug-prone.

If you get the Pro version you have the option of using Sessions which means that you don't have to use a catalogue and go through the import stage. You can also then choose to continue using Bridge for your catalogue functions.
