Correct. When you switch the camera to Crop mode, all it is doing is cutting/cropping the image exactly as if you do it with a print and a pair of scissors. The crop mode doesn't change your focal length (that's why the image looks bigger), nor anything else.

To get the same composition in Crop mode, you would need to use a different lens ( a 75 mm instead of a 50mm) but then the DOF will change but that is not because you switched to Crop but because you're using a different focal lens - and that gets you of course in the equivalence subject.
