Re: X-E4 command dial

I know there are many threads bashing Fuji for various design decisions on the X-E4. This isn't one of them, but I am a little confused. The rear command dial was implemented on the X100 and X100S models, and then the front dial was added later. I use the rear dial quite a bit, and the front dial almost never. So, it seems strange to me to keep only the front dial. Is the idea to move everything the rear dial used to do to the front, or do most people already use the front dial more?

I use both the X-E1 and the X-T3. I use the rear command dial a lot. I use the front command dial on the X-T3 to choose between the three autoIS0 modes (The IS0 dial does not have that option on the X-T3), to select the SS manually (SS dial on T) because the SS dial has no 1/3 stops (I think it should) or to control the aperture on my XF-60 (aperture ring no longer works). So basically the front dial acts as a substitute to supplement some deficiencies of the real dials. I like it better to control the ISO manually by using the front command dial with a long heavy lens on the camera since my left hand is already busy holding the lens and can't access the physical ISO dial on the left.

From an aesthetic standpoint, I would have thought that simplifying and cleaning up the look would have meant eliminating the dial on the front, not the back.

I don't care much about the aesthetic of a camera. I feel the camera aesthetic derives from its functionality. I like small cameras and I likethe soapbox look. It's comfortable in the hand, does not attract attention and it is soft to the wrist when holding the camera by the lens (for larger lenses).

Either way, I can live with one dial, just as I did with the X100S. Just curious if you all see some logic I don't in this decision.

I agree with that, I didn't see the manual yet. The operating details are very important.

Logic? Innovation? Marketing? It looks like the XE series now is the last one to get the newer hardware. Has it become the training ground for new engineers at Fuji and of new reviewers? Not bad to come up with new ideas though.

In the case of the X-E1, I was very happy with the quality of the images but I find it is not lively enough for me. The X-E4 should solve the laziness problem of the XE1. There are many questions still unanswered yet like the heat management. Is the 4-core processor going to run as fast as on the XT big brothers or is the clock running slower on the xe4? The devil is in the details .
