Hello friends!

I haven't taken street photos for a long time (since 2016 or 2017 I believe). It's good to be back and still see some familiar names and faces (or faces with different names) from those times. Don't we do those weekly threads anymore? I loved those.

Here's one of my first photos from this year. Trying something different now... color, and straight out of camera JPEGs.

love this..

seeing something new is so satisfying.
It has, as your photographs always did ..a super-strong cultural influence and personal style.
You were always so present in your photographs

You had an infant son when you were last here. Is that right? He must be a retired social crusader by now.

is awesome to see you again and that you are still into Street, really heartening

Yes, my son is 4 now. We’ll see about social crusader... right now his crusades are for doing as he wishes instead of as his parents tell him.

Here’s a photo of him:

Though he absolutely hates all black and white photos. I have no idea why.

Thanks for the kind words, Ant.

All photos I've taken this year so far have been around the same area, so I'll add more to this thread if that's ok.

C&C very much welcomed.

Hi Patrick

I would say a combination of both and also other factors.

The city is definitely a lot emptier due to people working from home, or simply having lost their jobs due to lockdown restrictions last year (many shops here have closed doors).

Also, I usually take photos around 9am before work. These photos were taken near a museum in downtown Rio which opens to the public at 10am, so when I’m there there are only early tourists, sellers with their ice cream or coconut water carts, and, surprisingly, fishermen, even though the waters around that museum are polluted.

Since I’ve started taking street photos again, after a long hiatus, I decided to explore that area because it’s somewhat new to me (I had only been there once, to go to the museum when it was inaugurated), and also because being a tourist area, I’m mostly ignored while pointing the camera around. You don’t really see people taking photos here as you would in, say, NYC or London.

Thanks for looking.

I remember that you were a great one to watch. And now I remember why.

you should (is up to you) post photos in the main forum though, and not all in the same thread.
(there is a reason, I just don't tell you what it is) (is all)

One reason I’m not doing that is because I think these photos work better as a series even if they are not that strong individually.

The other reason is that when I create a thread I have to invent a title for the photo, which makes me feel silly. And a dozen threads called “Rio, 2021” would be even sillier.

But if it’s the house rules then I guess I should just follow them without complaining. This I’ve learned from my wife.

lol. Is like saying each one is worth 1% of one like so you will have to see one-hundred photos before you see one you like ..or to see 100 so that the 1% of each adds up to another 1 like.
lol again

do the date then ..or just say what the weather was like ..or just randomly hit the kb

is just a suggestion, one wife's rules are enough

Well, take a photobook for example. Maybe not every image will be outstanding on its own, but they’re there because of the sequencing, to set the mood, to help the author tell a story, etc. Know what I mean?

Some do that ..and some 'you' think are doing that are not and are doing something else ..that you couldn't know because you didn't see.

And some are just not very good books.

Every page has to do it in Street, is the nature of Street that it either is or isnt.

Besides your question is more about the tolerance of the audience then about the skill of the photographer.

..and an entire book of not-outstanding is hopefully not the photographer's objective.
