Re: Excitement for new XF70-300

I'm very excited - the release date feels like providence, since just a couple of days ago I booked a Yellowstone/Grand Tetons vacation for late spring.  Hopefully I can get my hands on a copy by late May!

I have and appreciate the 55-200, but as others have said more reach (with no additional weight penalty!) would be nice for wildlife.  The fact that the new lens will accept the TC's is even better.  WR is just gravy.

I'm sure that the 100-400 is excellent, but I can't justify the expense given how little I would actually use such a lens.  The 70-300 hits a real sweet spot for a more casual hobbyist like myself.

Haven't seen it noted here yet, but one thing that Rask pointed out in his quick review was that the 70-300 seems to hunt a bit in low light, more so than the 100-400.  Doesn't matter much to me, since I have the same experience with the 55-200, but just bringing it up in case it matters to someone thinking of downsizing.
