Are the latest cameras essentially future proof?
2

The most recent offerings from the likes of Canon, Nikon, and Sony (did they announce something yesterday? I may have missed it...) are more than most people will ever need out if a camera. Of course, some specialist users might need better video capability, or even faster performance, but that won't be the case for most people.

So the topic I want to discuss is: are these new cameras essentially future proof? By which I mean, it seems like they will still be enough for the vast majority of people in ten, fifteen, twenty years time.

This seems clearly different to the digital cameras which were being made ten or fifteen years ago, and which have now been noticeably surpassed by improvements in performance and, more importantly, image quality.

Does this seem right to everyone? Or am I missing something?

(I'm not buying one of these new cameras by the way - my pockets aren't deep enough!)
