Shutter Release Cable for S1-Series of Cameras?

Has anyone have experience using a shutter release cable / trigger for the S1 line of cameras that is NOT the official Panasonic one that costs $70?

For example, BandH lists a cable that looks like 2.5mm Tip Ring Sleeve (TRS) to a 2.5mm Tip-Ring-Ring-Sleeve cable here:

$3.99 cable from BandH that is supposed to work as a shutter trigger.

I already have a radio-controlled shutter release for my Sony cameras that has a USB mini cable. Can I just swap the cables with this cable and then use it to trigger the shutter on my Panasonic S1? Or am I somehow going to fry the electronics?

Here is what the Remote control that works on my sony cameras is:

Thanks in advance for any help.
