Macro with Sigma 45mm

Months ago when I got my Sigma 45mm F2.8 DG DN, I also bought a step ring to use my Canon 250D close-up lens with it. However, the difference appeared to be less than expected, roughly a 50% improvement in magnification.

Today I did a slightly more scientific test and discovered why: The maximum magnification of the lens is rated 1:4, but in real life on a Sigma fp I actually get 1:3.5!

So, is this the general situation or is the shorter minimum focus distance limited to the fp or maybe L-mount (vs Sony FE) or are Sigma simply just extremely conservative in their specs?

Of course, given the design of the 45mm, you want to stop down a bit for close-up shots, but it's really sharp once you do so.
