Of interest is the latest DPReview video on the Z7 II, which notes that the eye focusing algorithm now focuses on the pupil, rather than eyelashes, as in the Z 7.

Assuming the Z6 II has the same algorithm, it's clear that it should lock on to the pupil, and not on (in my sample photo) a hair.

A hair in front of the pupil is not the same thing as an eyelash.

Besides, again in my case, the camera focused on the *other* eye, not the one indicated by the yellow box.

In your example (as has been mentioned), it has apparently focused on the hairs in front of the indicated eye. It would be coincidental that the other eye is in the same focus plane as the hairs.

In any event, I returned my Z6 II to Amazon and the replacement is arriving today, so we'll see if anything's changed.

My guess is that the same thing will happen if it is used in the same circumstances.
