Impact of EXIF data in browsers

Sorry if this is not the correct forum for this question, but I couldn't find a better suit.

I see a big difference between the image seen with a imageviewer or GIMP, and the same image in Firefox and Chrome. It seems to be an EXIF related problem.

See, for example, the following picture that I've processed a while back with RawTherapee:

This picture is the same as the following, except in the second one I removed all the EXIF data:

As you can (probably?!) see, the second one looks considerably darker, at least in Firefox and Chrome in my Linux box.

Which is the EXIF tag(s) that is messing up with this picture, and why?

In fact, these pages are in my webpage, where they are seen using Javascript. Maybe I can ask the browser to ignore or change the EXIF using javascript?
