I have noticed the exact same behavior as you have when shutter speeds drop below 1/200 s. I get much better results, with no noise, by bumping ISO way up from 200 to 800 or 1600 or even 3200. Doing so

increases shutter speed

By the Camera?  The camera does the increasing of the shutter speed ?

This is the piece I needed...so hopefully no penalty in increasing the ISO

and reduces the overall time for the entire set of images to be captured and thus reduces the subject movement problem.

It won't work for birds flitting around rapidly but does handle less speedy subjects, like the deer and elk of the original poster.
