What time of day does it get really dark?

We all heard of Golden Hour, sunset, etc... But what if you want the time when the sun is no longer a factor and the light is only from stars, moon, and other non-sun sources? In other words, as dark as its going to get for the night. What is that transition period called? I tried searching "night" but I didn't get the expected results (e.g. when you search "sunset" you get a precise time, but I did not get that searching "night" which leads me to believe there is a better term)?

Also, how big of a geographical area does a particular "sunset" cover? For example, if you know sunset is a certain time in your city, would it change by the next city over, or is it a larger area than that?
