Getting Warmer...

For the sake of suggestions, I'm willing to up my budget to the $500CAD ballpark for tripod and head combo, unless the consensus is that the price/performance optimum is slightly beyond that. Looking into Leofoto now as well as some higher end Siruis, will have a browse on Ebay for Gitzos and the like. I thought choosing a tripod would be easier than choosing a camera but given the relative ambiguity I actually don't find this the case.

Much better than $150-200CAD, you are getting warmer!

Have you looked at FLM’s offerings? They are very well made, with excellent performance, 10 year warranties, and you can buy direct from Ari at FLM Canada — check out their website https://www.flmcanada.com, then go over to The Center Column https://thecentercolumn.com to check out David B.’s testing and reviews...

Perhaps the CP34-L4 II, or even the smaller CP30-L4 II will work for you.

I own the CP34-L4 II and 3 of their heads...all excellent products which can be compared favorably to my RRS and Gitzo, but for a better price.
