heavy Dutch winter

or some unexplicable reason Dutch media love the notion of white winters. probably sheer nostalgia after looking at too many Golden Age paintings from the depths of 17th century when climate was much cooler in this part of Europe...

roll forward to 21st century and snow is less and less likely here in coastal Holland. last time there was a reasonable snow cover was 2017 and a winter with regular snow fall and low temperatures is as far back as 2013. there were ridiculous 3cm of wet snow last Saturday which melted 4 hours later - but suprise, surprise: it didn't stop Dutch media from touting "winter is comming" and issuing severe warnings for the drivers due to heavy conditions. you would really be excused to think something like Canadian winter is to be expected, which confronted with subsequent reality is just beyond ridiculous

so below - the heavy Dutch winter as we get them in reality. not in media reality, which is something completely different make no mistake, it's really cold with +5C, windforce 5 from the west and humidity >80%. it's really chilly, more so than nice -5C on windstill day. but white landscapes... it's just not happening, we're stuck with old paintings for this
