R5 and 800mm f11 Image Stabilization

In the past I had heard you should not use IS if you are shooting faster than 1/800 of a second as it would not provide any advantage. However, the 800mm is difficult to hold stead on a bird-in-flight. Is there any advantage to using IS for a bird-in-flight at say 1/1600 or 1/2000 of a second? On the R5, leaving IS on really uses up the battery.
