I think you're on the correct track. After several international trips which all involved attempting to stuff a D7200, two or three lenses, iPad, etc. under the seat ahead and still leave legroom on aircraft (35" inseam)...I bit the bullet and got the Z50 with 2 kit and FTZ. I won't need the FTZ for travel unless there is a special requirement (thinking starry night from the Sahara in Morocco, or maybe night street scenes in Paris or Tokyo...whenever covid lets up). Then the FTZ makes all of my DX and FX lenses initially bought for the D7200 (and D5300 before that), available. Z50, kit lenses, + FTZ makes a great second/backup/walkabout camera as well. Lots of flexibility and essentially the same image quality.
