I own both.  They're both excellent, but they are different.  The 23mm is to me a much more 'universal' FL, but then I'm more into landscape and nature than taking images of people in low-lit bars. I don't use it much wide open - I'm not particularly impressed with it at f1.4, but often need more DOF anyway.  I'm very impressed with it a few stops down and it's probably my most used FL.

When I do take people, the 35mm is often exactly the right lens.  (It's sometimes exactly the right lens for landscapes too, depending on what's in front of you.)  And it can excel in both - it has the rendering at wide apertures that appeals to so many people here.  You won't see it mentioned as often, but it's also very sharp across the frame when well stopped down.

I'm happy owning and carrying both.
