Should CFExpress cards get very hot when using a Lexar reader?

So I got a SanDisk 128G CFExpress card to be able to record 8K video on my EOS R5.
So far it hasn't ever been hot when I removed it from the camera, but I've only been doing stills so far, but when I use a Lexar card reader to transfer the contents of the card to my Mac the card can become almost too hot to touch.
It seems, but I could be wrong about this, that hot even after the card has stopped being read.
Is this normal due to high download speeds or should I be concerned?
Thanks for any info!
