Thank you for your response, Rol Lei Nut. My primary interest is not for metering - as you mentioned, I’m relying on the camera to figure that out. I’m concerned that I’m setting the camera for f8, with certain expectations for depth of field and sharpness at that aperture, but the lens actually has me shooting at f4, or whatever. Do I need to set the lens at f16 to get the effect of f8?

You are correct, there is a magnification scale on the barrel for use with the extension tube, but there are also numbers that look like f stops. See pic below.

I’ll look into the exposure compensation chart you mentioned - I’m not totally clear on the relationship between exposure compensation and focal length, so I have some research to do.
