Hummingbird's tongue
5

Hummingbirds have long, divided tongues. and they use them in astonishing way.

I managed to take a picture of a hummingbird with its tongue out (the bird was grooming).

For those interested in ornithology: an article The hummingbird tongue is a fluid trap, not a capillary tube by Alejandro Rico-Guevara and Margaret A. Rubega (2011) explains it all in details. The article is available at www.pnas.org/cgi/doi/10.1073/pnas.1016944108 . If you decide to download it, in the article there are links to .mov videos showing the process in slow motion (link on first page, bottom right corner); don't miss it!
