Mirrorless battery life

The Canon R5 uses about the same capacity battery as the Sony A7RIII, but only has half the battery life. Is this going to be corrected in the next generation? Micro electronics has advanced in the last few years with smaller geometries requiring less power. Is Canon using old tech? Greater current draw could be the answer for shorter battery life and account for some overheating issues. Circuit efficiency is more important in todays compact mirrorless cameras, then it was in dslr's.
