18-45mm is basically a crop version of 28-70mm. If it's fast why would that be underwhelming?

But it wouldn't be fast if it's a kit lens, and it wouldn't offer enough range. The nearest thing in EF-S is the venerable 17-55/2.8 and even that beats it for range at both ends. For the outdoor photography that I believe the R7 would be aimed at, a longer range and weatherproofing are way more important than an f/2.8 aperture.

For me there is little if any point in offering a crop equivalent of the RF 28-70 f/2 - even assuming that it is technically feasible, given that it would have to be f/1.2 to be equally fast. Even if you turn a blind eye to true equivalence and argue for a crop 18-45 f/2, it's no kit lens.

Possibility to use the old EF-S lenses is an argument for the R7, even "cheap" R replacements will cost a good part of the body.

I still have to test my EF-S 17-55/2.8 and 10-22 on the 32mp sensor (M6II).

EF-S 60 macro is superb.
