I lack the skill needed to paint or draw. I deeply wish I could and if I could I'm not sure I'd take photos, probably not as many. I need to think about this idea a bit more!

Some years ago I attended a service club presentation by the artist Anderson Yang.    The first slides he projected were photographs of his watercolors.    Needless to say, these paintings were stunning.   No surprises, given his stature.

Then he showed film photographic slides he had taken over the years all over the world that were exemplars he used as bases for his paintings.    These photographs were equally stunning.     Any photography contest he chose to enter, if that were his field of interest, he would win.     He is a world class photographer.   But the photographs to him were only a means to an end.

I came away with some insight into the skill and creativity that defines a true artist.

Anderson Yang is a true artist.

I will never be an Anderson Yang.
