I have the X100T (in terms of AF and lens it is the same as the S) and the XT20 and use the same focusing technique as you do.

Sure the AF is slower than the XT20 but operationally the camera can sometimes be faster:

* The X100 can be programmed to switch on/off face detection with one click. By doing this you also switch metering mode with just one press (I have this assigned to the fn button). personally I find this super useful and super fast.

* The X100 has less focus points which means that you can adjust where you focus with less presses on the D-pad. In my case moving the focus point one third left or right of the frame is done with 2 presses on the D-pad. On the XT20 it requires 5 or 6 presses.

Compared to the XT20 the X100 feels like a tank (no plastic just metal). It also has a bigger EVF.

In all - even if the XT20 is faster and more modern I enjoy using my X100T more and operationally it is often quicker.
