I bought the non-VR version for $75. I bought this lens as a landscape lens for my D800, so not having VR works better for it because AF-P VR has to be turned on and off in the camera menu and the D800 doesn't have that option so VR is on all the time.

Here's a comparison between my copy of the non-VR version and my AF-S NIKKOR 70-200mm f/2.8G VR (the 1st version) with a TC-14eII attached, both on a tripod with no VR:
You can get the VR version at KEH right now for $169.

Wont work on older bodies like D7000, D300s, D300, D200 etc.

Otherwise it would be a great suggestion IMHO
