Your above picture was taken using 600mm (equivalent) zoom.

Having a 600mm zoom is very good, but still not enough for this.

This is the reason why I recommended to you the FZ80 camera.

Because the FZ80 camera have a zoom 20-1200mm zoom range.

The FZ80's widest aperture goes from f/2.8 to f/5.9 (whereas the FZ300's widest aperture remains at f/2.8 throughout the zoom range) -- that means the lens gets darker and darker as the user zooms from 20mm to 1200mm, and the user just cannot open the aperture any wider than f/5.9 when zooming all the way to 1200mm.

One must be very smart and selective about the LIGHT condition.

If one cannot capture clear, sharp, colorful pictures with the FZ300 at 300mm and f/2.8, by mucking around in in questionable light conditions, I doubt very much that one can capture pictures 1/3 as good with the FZ80 at 1200mm and f/5.9.

Joining this thread quite late, but glancing at the various photos posted here, I must say they are flat and dull. The FZ300 is more capable than that -- if used properly.

I understand that Stevie Boy Blue is not a fan of the FZ80 camera.

But if you look through the pictures from VT in his posted thread,

it's obvious that VT is able to get fantastic results from his FZ80.

If you decide to get a camera with less than the 600mm zoom,

personally, I don't think you will be happy with it's zoom range.

True. You don't use a pistol when you are a sniper -- you need a long-range rifle.

At the same time, a successful sniper understands much more than knowing how to squeeze the trigger.

The relative sensor sizes should help set expectations realistically.
