It's not just "M43 haters"

It’s not too big for me at least. I think it’s just right. I love the handling on my GX7 for vacations and a night out However it soon feels “fiddly” especially if I’m wearing gloves.
True. Neither of my GX bodies (GX7, GX9) were particularly pleasant for me to use when wearing thin gloves, even though I had raised the rear buttons on the GX9. I couldn't reliable turn the rear dial which I use for exp comp. For that matter, even carrying in my hand for a few hours at a time, I found the GX9's grip was too small and poorly shaped, so I added an optional grip.
In contrast, the G9 is just fine when I'm wearing gloves.
I honestly think the EM1 and G9 are an ideal size for handling, even if they are called “too big” by the M43 haters.
It's not just M43 "haters" who think the G9 is too big. I have a G9 and I like it a lot but *I* think it's too big as well. It's too big for MY uses. I had a G85 and found its ergonomics to be perfectly fine for my use, even with my PL100-400 lens. I ended up with a G9 simply because the G95 could only be bought in my country with a kit lens and the 4K crop was annoyingly severe (IMO).
And now that I've used the G9's continuous AF for video, I'm quite hooked on that as well.
But if Panasonic releases a G95 successor that takes care of my complaints and has noticeably better video AF then I'll be happy to replace my G9.
I've got two bags that are perfectly setup for my two modes of photography and the G9's extra girth makes stowing/remove the gear a bit more fussy and a little bit of extra fussiness over a period of several days becomes annoying (mainly because I choose bags for fast and convenient gear access and a tight fit ruins that). I bought into m43 for the compact size of the system and found a nice balance between that and lens & body performance but the G9 has porked things up a bit.
Oh, and that reminds me of another point: I'm not saying that the G9, in and of itself, is too big/heavy. It's that, in combination with the other body & lenses I carry, it pushes the size/weight of my total load to an uncomfortable level. The straw that broke the camel's back, if you will. Now, I could change my lens load out but that would change my shooting options in a way I would find objectionable. On the other hand, a reduced spec camera in the form of a G95 successor is something that won't impact me very much since I'm not much of an action shooter or BIF photographer.
So ***IMO*** people are certainly warranted in wondering if the G9 is too big. Obviously it's not too big for everyone, but it certainly is for some people...even if they are not M43 haters.
If you’re new to the M43world, remember you’ve bought into a SYSTEM and not just a camera. My GX7 isn’t going anywhere, when I want smaller and lighter body, that’s what I’ll grab. When I need weather sealing, great 4K video and better handling, I’ve got that covered with my G9. THAT is the beauty of this system.
Their in-between is the Gnn series which, IMO, they dropped the ball on with the G95. It wasn't a huge fumble but it was enough to make me avoid it. The ridiculously low price of the G9 didn't do the G95 any favours, either.
But I love the option of having two different body sizes/styles that both complement and backup one another. For me, that's currently a GX9 & G9 combo.
I’ve used some very nice and VERY expensive photo/video gear throughout my career. However, I chose M43 because it makes me want to go out and shoot and isn’t that what it’s all about?
Agree. I had the money to start moving to a new system this year but after examining the options, I decided to stick with M43 because it achieves over 90% of what I want in terms of photo/video ability while keeping the system size and weight low enough to easily fit into a bag, along with a laptop & other travel gear, under the airplane seat ahead of me. Instead, I bought a Fuji X100V for indoor and low light street photography. And already I've discovered that it many cases, the additional DoF of M43 negates the advantage of a larger sensor, for my typing of shooting.
