G9 too big?

I prefer the worst new camera of 2020

I had a G9 for around a year, with decent f2.8 lenses. Too big for me?

I'll now only buy a camera with a swiveling screen (just personal preference) so when Canon brought out swivel screen FF cameras, I eventually bought the lightweight RP with an RF 12-105 f4 lens. I added an EF 16-35 f4 plus adapter

IQ between the two cameras wasn't too different. The latest 20 mp M43 sensor looks to me to give more analogue and less digital images than the 16 mp versions, but even so, I preferred the Canon images. I could get the G9 images very similar, but it took more PP time to do so. So sold the G9 and nearly all the M43 lenses.

I've always thought those complaining about FF weight are wimps. But either modern FF lenses are much heavier, or the ten years since I last carried them up hills have taken their toll, because grinding up some of the long hills around here, the RP with two decent f4 lenses feels like a big bag of heavy rocks.

Was the G9 plus lenses lighter than the RP and equivalent lenses? Yes. But for me, still a halfway house.

So when it came out, I bought the worst new camera of 2020, the G100. Jacket pocket size, 20mp sensor IQ and the tiny but remarkably good 12 -32 lens. I still had the little collapsible Oly 9-18 and I've just ordered the collapsible Panny 35-100 f4-5.6. I've had excellent results from the first two, and have high expectations of the third.

So a compact lightweight camera with swivel screen and three very compact, very lightweight lenses. I'm back where M43 plays to its strengths (for me); compact, light and IQ close enough to the best for most purposes. And I have the Canon for when I want it.

Of course, it's a system that suits me but not everyone. I never use video, don't attempt BIF or fast moving stuff like sports. Just landscapes, townscapes and opportunistic shots.

As someone on this forum points out, you don't get opportunistic shots from the camera you leave at home.

There are no rights or wrongs in this game, just what suits each individual and what doesn't.
