Photo software comes in 2 flavours... RAW editors like Lightroom, Exposure, DXO and Capture One, and pixel editors like Photoshop, Affinity, and PaintshopPro. The pixel editors are more difficult to learn and you still have to “develop” the RAW file first but they can do some pretty sophisticated editing. Save them for later in your journey. A good pixel editor is a supplement to a good RAW developer. Another program to consider because of ease of use is ACDSee. All have free trials so you can get a feel for their workflow.

Yes, no one looking at my photos will be doing so after paying me so RAW editor is all I anticipate needing. I obviously wouldn't even know what to do with a pixel editor. Sounds a little overkill?
