I was out last night taking pictures of the Christmas lights so by mistake I left the -1EV on. Here are a couple of shots taken just now inside my "man cave" with no artificial light. I can't answer on the Nikon f2.8...when i purchased the Sigma I tried it and the Nikon side-by-side and felt that the Sigma was just as good but for about 1/3 to 1/2 of the price of the Nikon. Decision made.

These are just quick snaps, RAW and converted in PhotoLab.  The piano is very dark oak and remember, -1EV was left in.

Outdoors for comparison, about a 150% crop.

Not trying to sell you on the Sigma, at the end of the day you'll pick what you decide on.  Just showing what you can get "in the dark" with it.
