Here’s an idea for you.

Your camera can allow you to try all the different settings and apply them to an image .

Once you found the settings that give you the image look your after you can apply them to the camera settings. No photoshop.

You need to take the image as a raw image and select edit raw in camera . It’s a great way of learning what effects it has on an image .
Take a look in the advanced manual.

Looking at the ship images by the way that is atmospheric conditions and quite normal and something you would fix in photoshop afterwards.

As I shoot jpeg rather than editing raw files I actually altered the tone curve in the camera to soften highlights to reduce white skies and deepened shawdows to better contrast .

I did this using the highlight/ shadow adjust in camera . If you put your camera on a tripod you can watch the effects live on a scene as you adjust them .

The amount of in camera image tuning is huge and takes time to learn .
