Hi.
Did solve ur problem?
Ive noticed same problem with my Eos R. Same lenses 85 1.8 usm and 50 usm plus converter Canon one. These are not L lenses .
Whats funny about this.
When I’m shooting in vertical position (trigger on top) and I’m trying get sharp face on object. Front focus on both lenses.
Now I flip camera to horizontal position everything is ok.
And another thing. I flip camera to vertical position but trigger this time on bottom. Face is sharp no front focus.
Cant understand that.
It causing problem because in vertical position trigger at bottom I can’t use grip because it’s very uncomfortable.
Anyone got similar issues?
I tested on tripod, hands about 100pic done plus 4 photo sessions. I thought it’s my fault, shaking hands. Low light etc. I went through everything.
Problem still exists.
Hi,
Had to register to post a reply, I've been looking for a someone with similar problems.
I have EOS R and I'm having problems just like you described.
I've been doing tons of tests, and I't looks like that focus misses mainly when using focus points at the right side of the sensor on my camera (looking from back of the camera).
It is easy to confirm: when I put my camera on a tripod, 10x magnification and focus with single point on right side of the sensor, camera front focuses. I can manual focus back and get sharp view and when half press shutter button to focus it front focuses again. Same test focusing on left side or center of the sensor, and focus nails right on.
Doesn't matter if it's horizontal or vertical orientation, just area of the sensor I'm trying to focus with. When shooting portrait orientation, right side of the sensor is on top and my camera behaves just like you described.
I have Sigma ART 35/1.4, 50/1.4, 85/1.4 and Sigma Sports 70-200/2.8 OS. I used to own EF 85/1.8 and I have also tested with EF 50/1.2l and 70-200/2.8l IS. Every one of them works the same way. Every Sigma lens has latest firmware and camera body is up to date too.
I have contacted Canon service, and they didn't really deny this kind of problems when I asked if this is common, but neither did admit that this was known problem to them. It's really frustrating. I shoot mostly portraits, and camera is a peace of junk at the time.
I'm going to send my camera to a service after christmas holidays. Hope it gets fixed.
