I am new to Fuji, just migrating from Sony who have their own quirky issues with custom settings but at least they got it right by storing the entire slate of settings. Most of my photography is wildlife and birds.

For birds in flight, I prefer to shoot bursts in S mode with the shutter at a minimum of 1/2000. I use continuous auto-focus over a wide area using Sony's Multi metering.

For perched birds, I prefer to bracket shots in A mode with the lens set to wide open, with center spot focus in DMF mode with center metering.

Without storing settings for focus and metering modes, the camera cannot switch rapidly enough to be usable. I am wondering if I need to reject the camera because it doesn't meet my needs. I'm kind of distraught over this.

If I understand it right, especially the first paragraph and the last one, then Fuji 'got it right' too (to cite you). You can store complete camera setting into custom slots. And you have four of them.

Could you please explain! I don't understand why the camera is doing and, as a newby to Fuji, it is ardous to move through the menus and test. I set up a option in My Menu to "EDIT/SAVE CUSTOM SETTINGS" and when I dive in to review or edit, I get five choices, as mentioned above: Shooting mode, Shutter speed, Aperture, Exp. Compensation, and Drive Mode.

No focus mode, metering, et al.

I will continue to test what is going on but an explanation would help!
